About Me

Hey there! I'm Shivala Rampersad, a second-year student studying Global Business and Digital Arts at the University of Waterloo, hailing from the vibrant shores of Trinidad and Tobago.

My journey into the world of art and graphic design began long before my tertiary education. From an early age, I found myself immersed in the realm of creativity and visual expression. Whether it was wielding brushes for oil painting or experimenting with hands-on mediums, I discovered a profound connection to the world of art. While I cherish the comfort of traditional mediums, I'm equally excited about exploring the limitless possibilities of digital painting, illustration and UI/UX design.

My passion for visual arts blossomed during my formative years, culminating in notable achievements such as placing 10th in the Caribbean’s regional merit list for my A-Level visual art and design studies. These experiences laid the foundation for my academic journey, where I now delve deep into the realms of user interaction and experience design.

What truly ignites my enthusiasm is the opportunity to craft intuitive and accessible interfaces that resonate with users. I'm fascinated by the intersection of design and human behavior, which is why I'm pursuing a minor in psychology. Beyond user accessibility design, I'm deeply interested in the realms of publishing and creative direction. Whether it's shaping the visual narrative of a publication or providing strategic direction for creative projects, I'm driven by the prospect of bringing ideas to life in captivating and meaningful ways.

Join me as I weave together my passions for art, design, psychology, and technology. Fostering a narrative that combines my creativity and innovation to create something great!

Growing up in the Caribbean has definitely shaped me into who I am today. It is an experience that is incomparable. However, there are limited opportunities and scope for growth in my desired field there. I'm determined to infuse our rich culture and aesthetics into my work, whilst fostering inclusivity and accessibility.
If I eventually return, I want to use my skills to enhance the design landscape there, bridging innovation with our heritage and lifestyle.

As an international student, I bring a diverse perspective, merging the colourful influences of my homeland with the first world innovations used in my academic pursuits in Canada.
